In this session we covered creating an outside patio / deck with steps (on two sides), a quick way to create a planting area, roadways, making symbols, controlling textures on roads, the major difference between Roadway (Poly) and Roadway (NURBS), the power of Roadways (Custom Kerb), how to make sure that a symbol, e.g. a car, follows the rise of let’s say a car park, using the Heliodon Tool, and changing the OpenGL settings to show shadows

Creating and outside patio / deck with stairs
There are several tools to creating stairs. The tool with the most options / versatility is the Custom Stair Tool. However, it is no longer part of the default tool set. Therefore we use the Simple Stair tool to create steps and a landing. We are also adding steps to a different side of the same landing / patio / deck using the Subtract Solids command and the Mirror tool.
A quick way to create a planting area
Quickly drawing the rough shape and the using the Clip tool to remove unwanted areas. Applying the Plant Line tool to change its outlines HINT: As with Hardscape areas, do not delete the ‘original’ shape as this allows you to easily apply changes later.
Roadways: controlling textures
Vectorworks offers the option of having two separate classes to texture roadways: Paving and Kerb Class. Both of them are automatically created when inserting a roadway. The paving height can also be changed as can the kerb height and width. All of these parameters can be found in the Object Info Palette when the roadway is selected. HINT: Always keep the Navigation Palette open. It makes it so much quicker to change classes, layers, etc. Roadways: the major difference between Roadway (Poly) and Roadway (NURBS). The NURBS version allows us to move individual Vertices in the X/Y/Z axis, i.e. to have individual control of each vertex, whilst the Poly version works with Stations to achieve the same result. HINT: Be aware that the Roadway (Poly) creates a class ‘Site-Paving-Kerb’ whilst the Roadway (NURBS) creates a class ‘Site-Paving-Curb’. HINT: Most roadways offer the ability to ‘Align Stations Vertically’
Roadways: the power of Roadways (Custom Kerb) – entering a rise value / reshaping / car park
Only the Roadway (Custom Kerb) allows you to do this. The Roadway (Custom Kerb) is very powerful and also allows you to enter a rise value from one end to the other. It also enables you to apply the Reshape tool and create virtually any shape you like.
Using the ‘Hide / Show Next Edge’ command
Very quickly and easily creating a car park with a drain in the centre. HINT: Make sure that the Start / End points of your road are in the correct location!
How to make sure that a symbol, e.g. a car, follows the rise / camber of let’s say a car park or a road
This only  works if a 3D symbol has no 2D part will it follow the plane of the object it is being snapped onto. Automatic Working Plane also has to be selected! HINT: The downside of this is that the symbol, e.g. the car, no longer has a ‘nice’ 2D representation in Plan View
