My Vectorworks PDF Files are too Large to Email

I’ve just had an e-mail from a client who wants to know what to do about the PDF files in Vectorworks. My client is now finding that when they export PDF files from Vectorworks the files are over 22 MB.

The answer is that there’s not much you can do about it inside Vectorworks. You can try to reduce the quality of the PDF files by reducing the resolution. The downside of this is that the quality of the PDF file also goes down. This can often mean that when you come from the drawings they are of a substandard quality.[ms-protect-content id=”34491,34492,34493, 34494, 34495, 34496, 344927″]
The real problem is that my client is having trouble e-mailing the drawings. E-mail programs have trouble when the files get close to 10 MB. There are other ways. The solution that I use is a website called dropsend.

The service allows you to send large files easily. I use the service almost every day to seen large files to my clients. I’m often sending files that are over 50 MB, and sometimes as much as 500 MB. You can get a free service which will allow you to send a small amount of information, or you can pay a small amount of money each month to send more files.
As well is dropsend, there is a similar service called you send it. Again, there is a free service allowing you to send a small number of files, or a paid for service that allows you to send many files.

Both of these services also offer online storage of files. This allows you to save the files online and send e-mail links to several people. This removes the need to upload the files every time you want to send them to your client.
