After you have imported a DXF/DWG file, you can then edit the information to make it easier to work in Vectorworks. Many DXF/DWG files do not have polylines all polygons. Generally, they have lots of lines and  arcs.  Vectorworks is more useful if you combine the lines and arcs together.
