podcast179 – Using Wall Styles with Textures in Vectorworks

You can use wall styles to control the textures. If you do this, you’ll find that you can change all of the textures on the walls easily by editing the wall style. You can assign the texture to the Wall Component, or you can use the Class settings of the Wall Component, for changing all the wall components at the same time.

  1. I can see, in the video, how you assign textures to wall components by the “Choose Texture” option, but how do you assign textures via classes?
I see the option in the Wall Component Settings, under Texture, to use “Class Texture”, but my components are not taking on the textures I have set in the component’s class. In the component’s class, I have the Left, Centre and Right set to the texture I want and checked on, and the “Use Textures/Surface Hatches at Creation” option is also on. (The class is has a solid fill and also has its “Use at Creation” setting on.)
In my wall style, the main Textures setting is “by component” and the same setting is active in the OIP under the Render tab.
This one has me a bit stumped at the moment. Any thoughts?

    1. Yes. YOu can do what you want, but in the class setting dialog, make sure that you set the texture you want in the OTHER area, the wall component is not considered to be a Wall, so setting the texture in the WALL area will not do it.
