This is the movie from the first session BIM Special Interest Group, February 2012. Topics…
BIM_SIG_036 Architect Special Interest Group December 2013
In this session we looked at site modifiers and how to create a sloping area of paving, how the Extract Tool works and how we can use it to create site modifiers. Site modifiers seems to be an area that causes a lot of confusion, so in this session we tried to look at the simple concept of site modifies and see how we could create them.
Topics covered:
- creating a rectangle
- using the rectangle to create a pad site modifier
- changing the pad site modifier into a sloping site modifier
- adjusting the slope of the site modifier
- assigning a texture to the site modifier
- using the Extract Tool to extract a NURBS surface from the side modifier
- detailed explanation of the Extract Tool and how it is designed to extract planar objects from the face of three-dimensional objects
- using the Extract Tool to extract the edge of a roof for use with extrude along a path
- using the Extract Tool to extract a planar surface from the sloping site modifier
- using a hardscape as a site modifier
- duplicating a side modifier with the mirror tool
- creating a sloping site modifier using the roof face for the 3D part of the paving and using the Extract Tool to extract the underside of the roof face to create the site modifier
- creating a simple stair and using the Extract Tool to extract the underside of the stair to create a site modifier

Hi Jonathon
I just watched this movie (BIM_SIG_036 Architect Special Interest Group December 2013). I am a Landmark user. My question is that I know I can not use the texture bed as a site modifier, but could I use the same extract trick to get the site modified?
Yes, that should wok. let me know how you get on with it.
