This was the second session for the education special interest group, and again we spent…
Education_SIG_012 Education Special Interest Group August 2013
This session looked at basic technical drawing skills and whether they should be taught as part of Vectorworks or whether they should be taught separately. There is an argument that these basic skills should be understood before the students learn to use the power of Vectorworks.
While the students might be able to be taught mechanical drawing with a T-square and set square, there is no reason that the same techniques cannot be drawn using Vectorworks. The important part is to teach the understanding of what constitutes an orthographic drawing along with the other basic technical drawing skills.
Topics covered:
- podcast 154 shows the concept of a orthographic drawing
- basic technical drawing skills – finding the tangent between two curves
- basic technical drawing skills – finding the fillet between two lines
- basic technical drawing skills – using the arc tool for triangulation
- basic technical drawing skills – using lines to calculate the length of lines at an angle
- using a keyboard exercise as a first introduction to Vectorworks
