epodcast177 – Creating a Dormer Roof that Crosses a Valley

I saw an email the other day where someone was asking how to create a dormer window that spans across two roof planes.

For most new buildings this is unusual, but it can be common for renovations. If you have a single roof, Vectorworks will not allow you to have the dormer span the two roof planes. If you have two separate roofs, Vectorworks will not create a dormer that spans into the two roofs.
If you create a separate roof face for the dormer window and you create walls to fill in the dormer, it’s reasonably straightforward to cut the holes in the roof and create the dormer that you need.
