Speed up your Typing on your iPad and iPhone

The steps in this blog are the same whether you are using an iPhone or iPad. You do have to be using iOS 5.  this means that the steps are not available on iPhone 3G, but they are available on iPhone 3GS or better.

This AutoCorrect function is accessed through the Settings.
Click on the settings button.

Click on the General settings.
Then click on the keyboard option on the right-hand side.

Scroll down to the bottom.
Click on the Add New Shortcut… button.

Type in the expanded phrase first.
Then type in the shortcut. Make the shortcut easy to remember, but do not make it conflict with other things. For example, VW might mean Vectorworks, or it might mean Volkswagen.
When you are finished, click on the Save button. Your iPad or iPhone will now remember your shortcut and if you type in the shortcut while you are typing a message, your device will automatically expand the shortcut to the phrase you typed in.
