Creating a Texture Using a Transparency Map. One of the major tricks with 3D modeling is, don’t model it if you can texture it. Think about the brick texture, we could have modeled every brick, but it is quicker to create a brick texture.
One way of creating holes in a object is to create a 3D model. This would work if the object was flat, but when you have a curved surface, it’s not easy to create the curved cut-out shape. The other way to do this is to create an image of the cut-out and apply this as a texture to the object.
