Viewport Editing Tricks. this podcast will show you some tricks to speed up editing viewports.
Viewport Visabilities
I saw a request on a community board recently. The Vectorworks user wanted to select a viewport, and use the Object Info Palette to change the layer and class visibilities, on the same dialog box. It’s not currently possible to do this, but there is a workaround, and that is to use the Organization Dialog box.
- Go to the Menu bar.
- Choose Tools > Organization…
This opens the Organization Dialog box.
Normally the Organization Dialog box shows Details, like this image. Most people do not click on the Visibilities button.
When you click on the Visibilities button the Organization Dialog box changes to show you the visibilities for each class.
Select a class, and the middle area shows you the settings for this class in all the viewports. An eye icon means that this class is visible in that viewport. A cross (or X) means that the class is invisible in that viewport.
The right area shows you the settings for this class in all the saved views. An eye icon means that this class is visible in that saved view. A cross (or X) means that the class is invisible in that saved view.
This gives you a way of working though all the viewports.
If you click on the Viewport tab in the Organization Dialog box, you can work a different way.
If you select a viewport, then you can check all the layer and classes settings on that viewport. So, if you select a viewport, you can look at all the classes, checking to make sure the correct classes are visible, and all the classes you want to be invisible, are correctly set.
This gives you a great way to work though each viewport or saved view, checking each layer and class.
Warning: in my manuals, I always advise you to name the viewports in a meaningful way. You can see that my viewport names make sense, and these make it easy to work though the viewports.
