In this session we looked at there topics: creating a custom window symbol, editing the roof of a massing model, and using a 3D polygon to modify a site model.

Symbols are generally thought of as relatively small repeating objects. So first of all you should use symbols whenever you need to repeat something, like sanitary fixtures, light fixtures, furniture, and so on.
Building a Symbol Library – Collect all your symbols together in a library, but don’t forget to give is a structure to make it easy to use.
Creating Special IFC Objects. When you import your IFC project into your model viewer, you will only see the IFC objects.
Beyond Beginner meeting May 2011 – symbols there are several tips and tricks for making symbol symbols, this session shows you how to make symbols with 2D and 3D parts. You can also use guides to improve the speed and productivity of using symbols.
You may not want to upgrade, you may not be able to afford to upgrade, but I still think you should read about what is new in Vectorworks 2011. There are some new ways what will change the way you think about creating your models.
What is a symbol?
Page Unit Symbols. Previously, I had several drawing label symbols that I would use on different projects. Because we would different layer scales, I needed to have a different symbol for each layer scale that I used. What a pain, having all those symbols, symbol folders, and maintaining them.
n the past we have never had symbols that you can scale. If you wanted a symbol of a different size, you would have to have used a different symbol. With Vectorworks 2011, there are two new options.
Symbols are very useful for repeating objects. When you make a useful symbol, it can save you hours. Learn how to make a symbol here.
