Continuing on with last month’s project, we looked at using Vectorworks’ Wall Framer, creating a truss roof, adding a new tool to Vectorworks, creating a truss roof using a 3D object and adding prices to materials to get a total cost.
Roof Framing. Many of the bugs that I reported in the Framing CPD manual have now been fixed. This means that when you now use the Roof Framer, the overhangs will be displayed correctly. As well as fixing these bugs, there have also been some other improvements.
Framing and Framing Tools. This manual will be looking at the framing tools and commands that are available in Vectorworks.
Truss Roof. The only truss roof tool available is the one from vectordepot, but it is not suitable for mono-pitch roofs, you can only use it on roofs that have equal pitches.
Roof Framing without Vectorworks Architect. The framing tools only work in Vectorworks architect. If you do not have Vectorworks Architect, you can still create kind of roof framing.
Roof Framing. Roof framing uses the Framing Member tool, but we can get Vectorworks to calculate all the rafters, beams and purlins, by using the Roof Framer command. In order to use this command, you need to have Vectorworks Architect or Designer.

When you use the roof framer, VectorWorks calls a text file that contains your standard roof framing sizes. This text file can be edited outside VectorWorks which makes it quicker to edit, and you can copy and paste between files.
