In this session the users wanted to look at a stair that had non-standard treads on the lowest two steps. They wanted the steps to fair out at the bottom and they wanted a newel post at the end of the standard handrail.
These requirements can be achieved using some standard modeling techniques like extrusions, add solid, subtract solid, fillet edge, instant push/pull, etc. The newel post can be modeled using the same techniques. If you add textures and lighting you can get a better idea of the model.
