When you draw objects in VectorWorks they are automatically assigned to the active layer and class. But if you draw the object in the wrong layer you can use the Object Info Palette to change this.

Layer options control how you see things on other layers. You can hide all the other layers, see them grey, see them but not snap to them, and see the other layers aand be able to snap or midify them.
