cadmovie583 – Building a Joinery Unit part 10
Before you set up the drawings, you need to set up the classes for objects that you want to turn off, or texture.
Before you set up the drawings, you need to set up the classes for objects that you want to turn off, or texture.
You can control the graphic on a massing model, but you can not use the Attributes Palette. The graphics on a massing mode are controlled by the classes on the massing model.
Set up the Layers. Start by setting up the layers for the project. You will need at least one layer for each floor of the building, a layer for the lower roof, upper roof and foundations. Foundations on an old building can be tricky to draw, unless you have some…
Class Standard. This file is stored in your Vectorworks user folder. It should contain all the classes you would want to use on any project. It should have the correct class name and graphic settings (line color, weight, texture and so on).
Classes. Layers are ideal for each story of the building. Classes are ideal for the components that go into each story. Layers are where things are, classes are what things are.
If you set up your file early on to use textures for specific classes that you want to texture then you have an advantage when it is time to assign the textures. By going to the classes dialog you can then texture all the objects of a specific class.
Visibility Tool. This tool is great for turning classes off.
Class and Layer Mapping. Class and Layer Mapping is a command that allows you to merge layers and classes together. You can use this to merge all the imported classes into the classes of your choosing.
Here is a tip for using the Visibility tool to check the classes of the objects on the screen. Thanks Bruce for showing me this. This only works in Vectorworks 2010 and above.
Vectorworks 2009 has a new tool for setting the visibility of layers and classes. I used to have a tool that would do part of what this tool does. This tool is highly recommend for controlling information on complex drawings.
