Using the Keyboard Shortcuts on an Android Tablet

One of the things I really like about the ipad and iphone is that you can add keyboard shortcuts to speed up your typing. For example, instead or writing Vectorworks, i have set up my ipad and iphone to recognise vw as a shorrtcut to the word Vectorworks.

This makes it a lot faster for me to write notes and blogs on my mobile devices.
Until recently I have been disapointed that my Nexus 7 tablet did not have the same technique. It is very productive and I have really missed it. But today I discovered how to set up the keyboard shortcuts.
On an Android tablet, you set up the shortcuts in the dictionary, so the first step is to go to the Settings and tab on the keyboard. In my case, I’m going to use the Google Keyboard. This is the standard keyboard that came with my tablet. I have tried to use Swype, but it does not have this option.
When you open the keyboard, tab on the option for Personal Dictionary. This will open another page.
 
 
Tab on the option All Language.
 
 
 
This will display a list of all your current shortcuts.
Tap on the option to +ADD (top left-hand corner).
 
 
Type in the full phrase first.
Then type in the shortcut.
When you are finished, tap on the +ADD again.
 
The new short will appear in the list of dictionary works with their shortcuts.
 
 
 
When you type, just type in the shortcut, the full phrase will be inserted. This is a great way to speed up the regular typing of phrases.
