Starting Your iPad for the First Time
When you open your iPad for the first time, you have to fill in several of the settings so that your iPad get onto the Internet. Without connecting to the Internet, your iPad is not very happy. This blog is written primarily for people that have never used their iPad before, and are struggling with how to get started.
Before you get started you should make sure that you have a wireless Internet connection setup for your location.
So, to start with you have to put your finger on the slider and slide it to the right to configure your iPad. There are several steps to go through before you can have fun with your iPad.
The first question is whether you want to enable location services. These services, as it says at the top of the picture, allow maps and other iPad applications to collect information about where you are, using Wi-Fi and GPS.
I always choose to enable location services.
After choosing the location services tap on the Next button at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
The next thing you need is to connect to a wireless network. You should have a wireless network available. If you do not have a wireless network available, then you should seek help to get one set up. When they set up your wireless network please take a careful note of the name of the network and the password for the network. The passwords are case-sensitive so you have to be careful how you type them in.
After choosing the network tap on the Next button at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
You will need an Apple ID to sign in. If you do not have an Apple ID, then tap on the button to create a free Apple ID. You will need an Apple ID to proceed, and you will need it to access applications from the iTunes App Store.
When you have created your Apple ID you can proceed to enter the Apple ID and password. To move to the next screen you will need to tap on the Next button at the top right-hand corner.
When you have completed all the options on the screen, the Next button will appear in blue. If the bus and does not appear in blue, something still needs to be filled in.
You will also have to agree to the terms and conditions by clicking on the Agree button at the bottom right-hand corner. if you do not agree to the terms and conditions, you cannot move forward.
When your Apple ID is set up correctly you can use I cloud for backing up your calendars, contacts, and so on. If you choose this option, you do not have to use a computer to back up your iPad, and you do not have to use a computer to buy applications, songs, movies, and so on.
There are another couple of screens that you need to choose options on before you finish. I always choose Use Find My iPad. This allows you to use another computer to locate your iPad if you lose it.
You can choose Don’t Send for the diagnostics.
Remember, to use the Next button to move to the next screen. When you have finished everything you should see the screen saying that your iPad is now setup.
Tap on the button to Start Using iPad.
And here is your home screen. This picture is showing the standard iPad home screen. It does not show any applications that are not standard.
