Step 1 Default Attributes

  • Make sure nothing is selected. When nothing is selected the the Attributes Palette will display default attributes. The next object you create will use these attributes.

  • Now, draw an object. Notice that the attributes match the Attributes Palette before you created the object.

  • Use the Attributes Palette to change the fill color and line weight.

Step 2 Set Default Attributes

  • Make sure your object is still selected.
  • Go to the Attributes Palette
  • Click on the Utility menu at the bottom of the Attributes Palette (the arrow at the bottom).
  • Choose Set Default Attributes. This will save the settings and you can easily use these attributes on other objects.

Step 3 Using Default Attributes

  • Ensure nothing is selected. Notice that the Attributes Palette does not yet reflect our new defaults. You can use this technique to have two default attributes; the attributes shown and attributes stored, which can be applied to a selected object by using the utility menu and choosing, Set Default Attributes.
  • If you what the shown attributes to reflect the stored attributes, go to the Attributes Palette, click on the utility menu and choose Set Default Attributes.

The Attributes Palette will change to show the new defaults.

Any object you create from now on will use the default attributes.
